Continuing our exploration of the Helios Basic Remedies Kit, this second part highlights nine more remedies that can be used for common acute symptoms—such as coughs, sore throats, digestive upsets, minor injuries, and emotional stress. These remedies are selected for their relevance to the kinds of everyday complaints many people manage at home.
Wound healing: Calendula Officinalis Renowned for its antiseptic and healing properties, Calendula is used in cuts, grazes, and wounds where there is a risk of infection. It supports clean healing and is often applied topically, though it can also be used internally for similar effects.
Urinary irritation and burns: Cantharis A key remedy in cases of urinary tract irritation, especially when there is burning pain before, during, and after urination. It is also used in burns and scalds where the pain is intense and blistering may occur.
Digestive collapse and bloating: Carbo Vegetabilis This remedy is used in states of collapse, exhaustion, or poor circulation. It is particularly helpful in digestive complaints with bloating, flatulence, and a desire for fresh air. The person may feel cold, weak, and sluggish.
Teething and irritability: Chamomilla A classic remedy for teething pain, irritability, and hypersensitivity to discomfort. Chamomilla is often used in children who are inconsolable and demand constant attention. It is also helpful in earache and abdominal colic.
Post-illness weakness: China Officinalis Indicated in cases of debility following fluid loss—such as after diarrhoea, vomiting, or heavy sweating. China is used to restore vitality and is often chosen when there is weakness, dizziness, and sensitivity to noise or touch.
Spasmodic cough: Drosera Rotundifolia A leading remedy for spasmodic, dry, barking coughs that are worse at night. Drosera is often used in whooping cough or persistent tickling coughs that come in fits and may leave the person breathless or exhausted.
Flu-like fatigue and anxiety: Gelsemium Sempervirens Suited to flu-like symptoms with fatigue, heaviness, and chills. Gelsemium is often used when illness develops slowly, with trembling, weakness, and a desire to lie down. It is also helpful in cases of anticipatory anxiety or stage fright.
Painful infections and abscesses: Hepar Sulphuris Calcareum Used in infections with marked sensitivity to cold and touch, such as sore throats, earaches, or abscesses. The pain is often described as sharp or splinter-like, and the person may be irritable, chilly, and prone to suppuration.
Nerve injury: Hypericum Perforatum A remedy for nerve-rich injuries—such as crushed fingers, dental trauma, or post-surgical nerve pain. Hypericum is also used in wounds where there is shooting or radiating pain and heightened sensitivity.
